Bed and Breakfasts: The Comfortable Choice

07/24/2006Attributed 2 Jenn
A bed and breakfast is a comfortable choice, and a great way to avoid the dull, commercialized feeling that modern hotels have. What better way to relax on a trip, then to stay in a nice, comfortable home, where your host greets with a warm, friendly smile, and your room reminds you of home. To top it off, I have had some of the best breakfasts in my life while staying in bed and breakfasts, and I am sure you will too. There is nothing like a home cooked meal, especially from someone who has been cooking delicious breakfasts each morning for years.

Bed and breakfasts are a tradition, holding on to old world values and a level of hospitality that has almost been lost in today’s modern world. Most often, you will find that bed and breakfasts are run in a visually appealing house with lots of history, located in the most beautiful areas of town. The atmosphere inside is very personal and home like, since most bed and breakfasts are run by the family or the individuals who own it.

You might be wondering to yourself, what are the main differences between a standard hotel and a bed and breakfast? For one, since bed and breakfasts are usually set up in a home, there are a very limited number of rooms available. You will definitely want to plan ahead and book your room in advance. Another key difference you will find is that bed and breakfasts are usually located in more rural areas than where hotels are generally located. Hotels are built near highways and other areas where a traveler is likely to pass, which is a great way to market towards their customers, but can sometimes place you in an undesirable location. Bed and breakfasts, on the other hand, are frequently located in beautiful residential neighborhoods, where you are sure to get a peaceful and quiet nights rest. Then of course, there is the breakfast. Hotels that serve breakfast are nice, but they often have processed food that is reminiscent of school’s cafeteria, including the large crowd of patrons waiting in line. With a bed and breakfast, you can be sure that the food and the coffee are fresh while you sit down at a real table with just a few other guests.

With bed and breakfasts having so many more benefits than a regular hotel, you would probably expect them to be quite a bit more expensive than hotels. While in some cases this is true, I have found that most of the time bed and breakfasts are comparable in price to other local hotels.

So for those of you have not yet had the pleasure of staying in a bed and breakfast, I definitely recommend you give it a try. Considering it costs around the same amount as a hotel, while giving you the extra benefits of a home cooked meal, increased privacy, and beautiful surroundings, there is no reason why you shouldn’t book your next vacation at a bed and breakfast. Once you have experienced their simple pleasure, you will never go back.
